Secure Confidential Shredding of Sensitive Personal and Corporate Data

Files deleted from computers can be can be found even years later, and even if the hard drive has been reformatted and repartitioned. Identity theft is only one of the risks associated with misuse of personal and business information recovered from computer equipment.

Researchers at the University of Glamorgan in Wales, Edith Cowan University in Australia and British Telecommunications (BT) bought and scanned more than 300 used hard drives at computer fairs, auctions and over the Internet. Even though most drives had their data deleted, the research team was able to recover payroll information, invoices, employee names and photos, IP addresses, mobile telephone numbers, passwords and financial data such as bank account and credit card numbers. Forty-nine percent of disks purchased contained personal information and forty-seven percent had corporate data.

Privacy legislation means that schools, medical services, community groups and businesses are responsible for the security of personal information they hold about clients and members of the public, and are liable for any misuse of this information. Personal information must be securely deleted before computer equipment can be sold, donated or disposed of.

We offer two levels of service:

• Industry Standard. Your files are deleted, including undelete information stored by Windows. Disk space is then over-written nine times with random data. Files cannot be found or recovered. This level of service is suitable for most home and business applications. Specialist technicians using expensive equipment may be able recover small file fragments using scanning probe microscopy.
• Defence Department Standard. Your files are deleted, including undelete information stored by Windows. Disk space is then over-written thirty-five times with random data. Files cannot be found or recovered. No fragments of original files can be recovered.

What to do if you have Disks or Drives you Need to Delete Securely

Send your disk or drive by Express or Registered mail to Recall Data Services, PO box 78, American River, KI, South Australia, 5221, Australia.

We will securely delete all files (or specified files or directories) and return your disk or drive to you by registered post. We pay return postage.

When posting memory, disks or drives, please ensure they are well padded and securely packed. Include your contact details including email address, and a brief description of what you would like us to do. Our standard turnaround time is 24 hours.
